EVH Eruption v1.0 - Eddie Van Halen

Description:

Eddie's Brown Sound - Eruption (1.00 version) Description : This tone is a quick patch for Eddies Eruption tone. Set on the Brown channel with around 280ms of tape echo and a vintage style phaser pedal, along with lashings of reverb, feel free to adjust the tone to your amp/cab and guitar setup. About Me : a longtime Marshall 2203 user and JMP-1 preamp user, pro guitarist gigging 20+ years, I just got the Katana head last week, and love it. Possibly the best amp for the price point I have ever owned. nowadays I am always out solo with my own backing tracks. I can play when and where I want to, and love it! GUITAR(s) ========= custom Fender strats with stock vibrato bars, and Seymour Duncan humbuckers. Strings 9-46 Ernie Ball Hybrid. BOSS TONE STUDIO IMPORTANT INFO ================================= If you are on windows and frustrated that the Boss Tone Studio didn't install correctly. fear not. Simply install the boss tone studio after installing your USB drivers, by setting your date back a year. after it has installed and working simply change it back to todays date. it's a bug in windows update/adobe air, and it will be fixed. Some tips on getting a good guitar tone ======================================== Here's the kicker. No, you will not sound like Eddie Van Halen with this patch. Only Eddie Can do that! you do not have his hands, or his thought process as to how he improvises...or his touch, or his feel.. but, you can get close enough, so here are some tips and pointers that may help you.... 1 - Bedroom Tone usually sucks live =================================== As always with any good guitar tone, what sounds great in your bedroom usually likes crap live with a band/backing tracks.. be careful with treble, it thins out your sound and make sure theres lots of mids.. if you are unsure about getting a good useable tone, start with the bass, mid and treble at 12 o'clock, along with the gain and volume and presence. listen carefully to how when you adjust one EQ setting, how it affects the other. adding treble can help smooth out the low end, and adding mids can help you cut through in a band setting. Imagine the tones as colours, bass being brown, mids being greens, and treble being pinks. what a complete mess it would be to add the wrong combination! that being said, from an electronics standpoint, remember you are literally playing electricity. to whack the bass mid and treble right up, would be virtually the same as removing the pots altogether from the amp. what's left? it's just electricity you are playing :) freaky huh? 2 - More Volume = Less Gain! ============================= The more you increase the volume, the less amp gain you need. For a less "fizzier" sound consider adding one of the BOSS Overdrive pedals to help boost your lead solos on the Katana, or better yet, add a compressor pedal (MXR Dynacomp is good!) to your pedalboard. Get a good crunchy rhythm sound thats comfortable to play with, but can also be backed off using the volume pot (the most important tone knob we have!) then add your boost pedal for those sustaining solos. 3 - Tone is in your head ========================= if your sound is crap, rather than invest in a great sounding amp (although it helps a bit) consider working on your technique. Pick hand attack, articulation and fret hand squeeze all send huge amounts of information for the amp to "see". Make a point of working with the overdrive or distortion, learn about what you like about it, and above all listen! The tone you like is in your head. forget string guages, and pickups and what guitar your hero used. Jeff Beck would smoke on a £50 squier strat through a solid state amp.. you can too! just listen, record yourself and work on your technique daily. lecture over. peace X Join the Facebook Boss Katana page, check out my website www.steveforward.com and add me on Facebook.
