Guitar effect patches for the zoom B2 and B2.1u

Bad Attitude - Billy Sheehan

Description:

BILLY SHEEHAN tone NOTES: Set your amp's EQ flat at first then tweak it to your liking. The patch is pretty loud - set the general patch volume at 40 max then tweak to your liking. I have been using B2 for some time time and created several patches but this one I'd love to share since it was the biggest challenge of them all. It took me about one week of experimenting and Youtube clips watching to get close to the unique tone of Billy Sheehan. Billy Sheehan uses a very specific equipment. For those who do not know: his Yamaha Attitude custom bass has two separate channels for each pick up (one Precision type for highs and one Gibson type humbucker for lows). Each of those channels is amped with a dedicated Hartke amp. The signal of both pickups is heavily compressed and boosted with "Billy Sheehan's Signature Drive" pedals to boost the clean low and to distort the middle and high ranges. The P-type pickup is amped with a Hartke with a graphical EQ set to the "inverted smile" (a strong middle boost) and the Gibson-type pickup is amped with a Hartke set for low boost only. To complicate things... The P-type goes through 15" driver while the low end pickup goes through 4x10" speakers... All of them are paper cones. A totaly crazy and unique rig, Billy has. As it is pretty clear, replicating the sound with B2.1u unit is basically impossible. But here goes the patch anyway, as close to the real deal as possible. I hope you'll like it. The sound is great for cutting through the mix in rock/hard rock bands and the warm, fat distortion complements guitars. The best sound is when you use a P-type pickup or when you turn off any bridge pickups you might have. This must sound "woody", period. NOTE: If you have an active preamp in your bass which allows for middle range boosting and low end scooping (like in the Cort Action A), use it and enjoy the massive boost, ideal for slicing heads of your fans during soloing. The harmonics are insane - slap your strings like Billy does and you will be surprised that your bass can squeak like a horde of demon-pigs straight from hell...

Oh, one more thing - try setting Compressor like this: 10-1-80 for even greater and fatter distortion. Be warned, however - this setting is not for subtle, quiet passages but for serious, fast and brutal picking/fingering. Let me know if you like this patch and find it useful. :)
